MPI Gala Awards Excellence in the Meetings Industry
The Annual MPI ALOHA CHAPTER Awards Gala was held on September16th at the impressive Sheraton Waikiki! This annual gala is always on the “A-List” for those in the know from Hawaii’s Hospitality & Meetings Industry and this year was no different!
This years honoree was the ever charming and seemingly never resting Chef, Business man, Mentor and spokesperson for all things Hawaii, Roy Yamaguchi! Thank you Roy for all you do to bring notoriety, business, education (and great food ) to our islands!
The guests dinned on an epicurean delight from the culinary team at the award winning Sheraton Waikiki – at candle lit tables adorned with stunning florals and elegant linens from Steven Boyle Design.
The MPI Aloha Chapter bestows it’s members with several distinguished awards at the annual gala. Each award has some very rigorous criteria to qualify and the nominees are voted on by the members. Each nominee and awardee has demonstrated unending dedication to their role in the chapter and to the industry over all. The following member nominees and award winners are to be deeply congratulated and thanked for their hard work in the chapter and the industry.

The actual awards were handcrafted and glazed by members and friends of the MPI Aloha Chapter Board. This fun and personalized activity was inspired by board members Ava Marie Matchen and Randy Clark a few years ago and has become a tradition for the chapter.
The MPI Aloha Chapter is 15 years young and this is its 6th Annual Awards Gala. The event is a fundraiser to support the chapter as it provides groundbreaking educational programs, networking opportunities and community out reach through out the year in the Hawaiian Islands. This years gala fundraiser and silent auction raised more then $15,000 to fund chapter events, scholarships and community outreach.
The silent auction is a real highlight and a major source of funds for the chapter. Included are items such as art work from local artists (such as Mike Caroll & Shane Robinson), Travel & Accommodations at many of Hawaii’s finest resorts, golf courses & other activities and gift certificates. This year the silent auction chair, Kat Lin-Hurtubise, orchestrated a “Wine Grab” that was a huge hit with the guests.
A portion of the proceeds will be given to Chef Roy Yamaguchi’s foundation of choice THE HAWAII FOOD & WINE FOUNDATION.
The MPI Aloha Chapter wishes to thank all of our countless sponsors, our silent auction item donors, our individual guests and table sponsors as well! We would like to humbly thank the chapter members who volunteered endless hours and brought amazing energy to produce this spectacular event!
