MPI Aloha Chapter Member of the Month: Toni Rojas

Categories: MPI Community,MPI News

Q: What prompted you to join MPI ?
A: I joined MPI 17 years ago (did I say 17?). At the time I was a Director of Catering & Convention Services, so a Certified Meeting Planner Certification was definitely my goal. MPI has provided great educational opportunities and I enjoy taking advantage of all they have to offer.

Q: What have you gained or hope to gain from your membership?
A: MPI membership provides me with a great professional network, educational development and continued inspiration. As a progressive organization, the MPI team ensures that we are provided with cutting-edge information from around the globe. As a highly specialized and thriving profession, I enjoy interacting with members with the goal of supporting our Aloha State.
As your new MPI Liaison for Maui, I hope to bring MPI’s networking and education opportunities to our island to maintain and cultivate new membership, increase awareness and inspire our profession.

Q: How long have you been in this industry? What led you to this profession?
A: I was initiated into the hospitality industry as a Lei Greeter back in 1981 to support me through college. From there, I worked my way through Ground Transportation, Destination Management, Hotel Catering & Convention Services, Hotel Sales & Marketing, the Maui Visitors Bureau, and finally to my own company. My company has grown gracefully with age, now specializing in Conference Planning and Special Events. I guess you could say I have covered a lot of hospitality industry territory!

Q:Tell us about you, your hobbies, interests:
A: Originally from Sydney, Australia, I came to Hawai`i to attend college. Needless to say, I fell in love with the islands and have had no interest in returning to the land down under on a permanent basis. Although I do visit Sydney, throw a shrimp-on-the-barbie, and break out my Aussie slang to remind me where I came from now and then. My big claim to fame is that I went to High School with Nicole Kidman – but she doesn’t get to live in Hawai`i!
Maui is now my true home with my Maui born husband of 24 years, and two adult daughters. And I’m a proud grandmother too.
We truly enjoy our family time and are immersed in supporting Special Olympics, where my youngest daughter is an athlete.
