MPI Aloha Chapter Member of the Month: Sherrie Holl

Categories: MPI Community,MPI News

A heart felt congratulations to Ms. Sherri Holl, the MPI Aloha Chapter Liaison for the Island of Kauai and our Member of the Month for January 2014!

We extend a huge Mahalo for all Sherri has done and contributed to the chapter over the years. Lets learn a little more about her:

MPI: What prompted you to join MPI?

SH: After our hotel’s MPI member left the resort, I was very fortunate to take his place, not really knowing 100% what MPI was, nor all the benefits of being a member and how it would help my career.

MPI: How long have you been a member of MPI?

SH: 8 years

MPI: What do you hope to gain from you membership or what have you gained from being a member?

SH: The networking and educational opportunities have been great.  There is a camaraderie with other MPI Members across the globe and I know that I can reach out at any time, to any member for professional support.  My membership has gotten me “in the door” at businesses I am prospecting.  I have been able to attend and be an active participant in the WEC Conference and always return with a renewed energy.

MPI: How long have you been in the industry and what led you to this profession?

SH: I have been in the industry for 25 + years.  After a short career in Social Work/Psychology, I realized that I wanted (and needed) a change.  I wanted to combine my love for people and my passion for travel and Hospitality was the answer.

MPI: Tell us about you…your hobbies, interests….life on Kauai.

SH: I moved to Kauai 9 years ago from Chicago.  The company I worked for 18 years shut its doors while I was at a conference in Hong Kong in 2004.  Upon returning back to Chicago, I tried calling a friend in Indianapolis, pushed the wrong speed dial and got my friend at the Hyatt Kauai. Upon hearing her voice message, I hung up realizing that I had dialed the wrong number.  She called me the next day and told me that they had heard about the company closing down, (they knew I loved Hawaii and wanted to eventually move here) and that there was a Sales position open at the resort.

The rest is history.  I am truly blessed!

I love exploring our beautiful island and enjoy spending time with friends at the beach or the movies.   I also enjoying working on family genealogy, which has been fascinating.  I am always planning my next vacation!   I am looking forward to my son, Damien, moving to Hawaii in just a few short months.
