Oahu CMP Study Group May-July, 2018


To qualify for the CMP Application process you will need 36 months of full-time employment in the meetings industry as well as 25 clock hours of continuing education. If you have a degree in Event Management or Hospitality, you will only need 24 months of full-time employment. All activities must be within the past five years. Also, if you participated in an industry-related internship, that may count for your 25 clock hours of continuing education.Allow 3 to 5 weeks for the review of your application (the deadline to apply and participate in our study group is the week of April 9, 2018). Once reviewed, you will receive an email from the Events Council Industry with the results of the review. If you’ve been approved, your confirmation will include information about how to pay for your exam fee and schedule your exam.

To apply for the CMP, it currently costs $250. Once you are approved, you will need to pay for the exam, which is currently $450.

The CMP Handbook and the CMP International Standards are required readings by Event Industry Council, these documents are found on line at the Event Industry Council website. Additional recommended reading materials include: The Events Industry Council Manual, 9th Edition ($99.95); the Events Industry Council Industry Glossary ($35.00); and the PMM Manual, 6th Edition ($110.00).

The exam dates that coincide with the MPI Aloha Chapter Study Group are August 3, 4, 6, 10, and 11, 2018 and times are from 8:00am to Noon and Noon to 4:00pm.The CMP Exam is computer based and is composed of 165 multiple-choice questions. Applicants have three and a half hours. Four possible answers are provided for each question. Only one answer is correct. There are no “all of the above” or “none of the above” and no trick questions. Because the exam is designed to measure competency rather than academic excellence, it is scored as either pass or fail.Once you submit your exam your final score will be displayed on the screen and you will know if you passed immediately. The Event Industry Council will mail your certificate within four weeks of the close of the testing window.
